Professional Experience
Mr. Szatan has more than twenty years experience in location strategy and site selection consulting and an additional ten years experience in regional economics, economic development strategy and real estate investment. He works with corporate clients to address organizational change and location strategy, relocation feasibility and risk, labor market analysis and other location issues. Economic development engagements have included labor market analysis, community asset and liability analysis, target industry identification, consensus building, research park benchmarking and other assignments. He has managed site selection engagements in the United States and abroad for major companies including: Bank One, Boar's Head, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Davis Selected Advisors, Equiserve, First Card, Hewitt Associates, Leybold Vacuum Products, Sun Microsystems. Union Pacific Railroad, Waste Management, Wausau Insurance and others. Mr. Szatan has conducted economic development studies for the Sauk Valley Partners (Illinois), Kankakee County (Illinois), Phoenix and other communities; and provided site selection training and perspective for the Indiana Municipal Power Agency, American Electric Power - Public Service of Oklahoma and others.
He formed Szatan & Associates in 1998. Previous positions include: senior manager at Fantus Consulting, regional economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and investment and policy research positions at Balcor Real Estate and the Metropolitan Planning Council of Chicago.

Mr. Szatan writes widely on site selection issues and methods, labor market analysis and economic development; recent topics include: labor market evaluation, demographic and labor force trends, facility consolidation issues, rural site selection, intermodal freight development, cultural institution building and community image, green industries and building sustainable economies, venture capital and other topics. He has spoken before many professional groups including the International Economic Development Council, Business Retention & Expansion International, National Association of Foreign Trade Zones and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago's conference on headquarters locations, and been quoted in the Wall Street Journal and other business publications.
